Specialist areas
- Primary and advanced colorectal (bowel) cancer, appendix cancer and peritoneal malignancy. Using both laparoscopic (keyhole) and open surgery.
- Peritoneal cancer surgery including Cytoreductive Surgery and Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for colorectal, appendix and other peritoneal cancers.
- Colorectal and general surgery including abdominal surgery for Diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis), colostomy/ileostomy surgery and surgery for anal disease – including haemorrhoids (piles), anal fissure and anal fistulas and pilonidal sinuses.

- Haney offers professional and compassionate personalised treatment for patients with bowel cancer or any other disease.
- Clinical Service Lead for Colorectal and General Surgery across four Birmingham hospitals – Good Hope Hospital, Birmingham Heartlands, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Solihull Hospitals (2019-2023).
- Founder of the Peritoneal Tumour Service at University Hospitals Birmingham Good Hope Hospital – one of three specialist commissioned sites in the UK.
- Colorectal and General Surgery Consultant at Spire Little Aston Hospital (Sutton Coldfield), Spire Parkway Hospital (Solihull) and Circle Priory Hospital in Birmingham.
Training and qualifications
Haney is an experienced colorectal, peritoneal and general surgeon, with extensive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of bowel cancer. He graduated from Birmingham University in 1997 and during postgraduate training became an anatomy teacher at Cambridge University Medical School. He has also worked as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and carried out research at the University of Warwick.
He completed further specialist training fellowships in peritoneal and advanced bowel cancer at the Basingstoke Peritoneal Malignancy Institute, Washington Cancer Institute and University Hospital Leuven. He then went on to set up and lead the Birmingham Peritoneal Malignancy Unit in 2012, which has performed over 500 Cytoreductive Surgery and Heated intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) procedures. This is 1 of 3 such recognised centres in England, UK.
Collaborating with the University of Birmingham, he continues his research interest in understanding more about peritoneal spread from colorectal cancer and looking for new treatments. He has also completed research in a whole host of other colorectal and surgical areas – see list of publications.
