- James is a leading consultant clinical oncologist with a national profile in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancer. He specialises in the treatment of anal, rectal, colon, pancreas, bile duct and liver tumours with radiotherapy and with all types of drug treatment.
- As the Clinical Director for Stereotactic and MRI-guided radiotherapy at GenesisCare, James has a particular interest in making advanced radiotherapy techniques available to his patients and integrating them with chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, surgery, and interventional radiology techniques to get the best possible outcome from treatment.
- James has been principal investigator on a number of clinical trials investigating new drug and radiation techniques in treating cancer. He is the Global Director of Gastrointestincal Cancer Research at GenesisCare and chairs the national research committee on MRI-guided radiotherapy.

Training and qualifications
- James trained in molecular biology and immunology at the Universities of Birmingham and Cambridge before medical training at University College, London. He then undertook internal medicine training at several teaching hospitals in central London and in Oxford before specialist training in radiotherapy and cancer medicine at the Royal Marsden Hospital, where he also conducted research into combining novel drugs with radiotherapy.
