Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS) is an innovative surgical approach to treating tumours high up inside the rectum (lower part of the large intestine). This safe, minimally-invasive procedure has a lower risk of complications and faster recovery rates than conventional rectal cancer surgery.
Depending on the size and location of your bowel cancer and whether it has spread to other areas, you may require surgery. Wherever possible, we offer our patients laparoscopic, or keyhole surgery.
Advanced bowel cancer is when cancer has spread from the rectum or colon to other parts of the body. For some people, the cancer is only detected when it reaches this stage, whereas for others it is picked up much sooner.
Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy – or HIPEC – and cytoreductive surgery are innovative procedures for certain types of abdominal cancers which can be hard to treat. These include colorectal cancer, cancer of the appendix and peritoneal mesothelioma, which is cancer of the abdominal lining.
