How private cancer care works

Most people we treat have private medical insurance, either through their workplace or that they pay for themselves.

Using insurance to access medical care privately in no way compromises your right to NHS care once treatment is complete.

There are rules around ‘mixing and matching’ NHS and private care that your consultant will explain to you if needed.

Many people also opt to pay for additional treatments that might not be available via the NHS, such as advanced radiotherapy or certain cancer drugs.

If you have insurance we will communicate with the insurer directly on your behalf to obtain authorisation to proceed.

All members of the Bowel Cancer Clinic are “fee assured,” meaning that all fees we charge are in line with the insurers specifications, but your policy details may mean that you have to make a contribution toward the total cost.

If you are self-funding your treatment, you will be given a clear idea as to the total cost before you choose to proceed.
