London Marathon Raises Money for Bowel Research UK
We are immensely proud of our colorectal and peritoneal surgeon Mr Umar Shariff, who ran the London Marathon this year...
The experienced, compassionate team at The Bowel Cancer Clinic is with you every step of the way on your care journey. For conditions that require surgery, we have created a comprehensive surgical pathway that takes you step-by-step through the process, ensuring the best possible outcomes. Below is an example of the pathway that some patients with bowel cancer may take. Each patient’s experience will vary depending on individual circumstances.
You will meet with one of our consultants who will discuss your symptoms, carry out a physical examination and review your lifestyle and general state of health.
We will conduct a range of diagnostic tests to obtain a comprehensive picture of what is causing your symptoms.
At our regular MDT meeting, our entire team of consultants and allied health professionals will meet to discuss your results and agree the optimum treatment plan.
You will be invited to a follow-up appointment where we will discuss our findings and outline the treatment options. You will be invited to ask questions and to go away to discuss the options with your loved ones before deciding on your treatment plan.
During your pre-op assessment the medical team will carry out a range of tests to check your overall health and ensure you are fit enough to go ahead with surgery as planned.
On the day of your surgery, our surgical team will do everything they can to help you feel relaxed and maintain your dignity and comfort. You will be carefully monitored before, during and after surgery. Once we are happy that you are well enough to go home, you will be discharged from hospital.
We will monitor you closely after surgery, with regular follow-up appointments to make sure you are healing well and there are no complications. Our surgeons invite patients for check-ups for up to five years post-surgery.
